Our mission
Founded in 2019 (Registration No. 16175), Nature Yetu is driven by a mission to inform, inspire, and empower individuals to advocate for, support, and take meaningful action to protect the natural world.
The organisation champions evidence-based conservation through three core programme pillars:

- Environmental Communication
- Capacity Building
- Research
Our vision
Conservation initiatives are increasingly designed and guided by science to effectively provide positive outcomes for biodiversity and people
Our origin and journey

Our philosophy
Nature Yetu exists to challenge the status quo—not to simply do more conservation, but to do it better. Achieving this requires creating a safe, inclusive space grounded in fairness, where the ideas of aspiring and established changemakers from diverse backgrounds, ages, and experiences can be explored freely, are genuinely valued, and deeply respected. Nature Yetu strives to be a place where learning happens without fear of failure—a space for experimentation, growth, and meaningful collaboration.
Our inspiration
“Be bold. Be a voice. Be a hummingbird” is the slogan of Nature Yetu, drawing inspiration from Wangari Maathai, the renowned Kenyan environmentalist and the first African woman awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004. Her powerful narrative of the story of the hummingbird is a reminder that even in the face of overwhelming challenges, like the biodiversity and climate crises, we cannot be passive. Nature Yetu embraces this perspective and extends it further, encouraging individuals to reflect deeply on their responsibilities and to contribute—not just through action for its own sake, but through responses that are thoughtful, informed, and purposeful.
