The Evidence-based Conservation, Heuristics and Outreach (ECHO) Platform is a knowledge-sharing and advocacy initiative led by Nature Yetu and implemented in partnership with the Tropical Island Biodiversity, Ecology and Conservation (TIBEC) pole of research of the University of Mauritius.
Context
Despite the availability of critical data and evidence, conservation efforts in Mauritius often overlook best practices and the unique challenges faced by the native biodiversity. Local expertise is frequently overshadowed by international perspectives, resulting in missed opportunities for locally relevant, impactful and evidence-based action.
Objectives
- Promote evidence-based conservation
- Showcase best practices for ecosystem restoration and nature-based solutions
- Increase awareness on research in the WIO region and the implications for conservation practice
- Highlight researchers working to inform conservation practice in the region
- Increase awareness on Mauritian native biodiversity & the extinction of local experiences with nature and native biodiversity
